I love your blogs!! Always so insightful!
YAY
Hi Dori, I know this feeling well… I’m finding tremendous support lately from reading Liz Gilbert’s Big Magic. I’ve read it 3 times in the last 6 months. And I’ve been writing fiction again after a two year break. I’m curious if you’d like it. Best, Anna
I am moved by your courage in the face of trepidation and your commitment to find a way to be grounded and establish the bond of our shared vulnerabilities. I recall E.M. Forster’s
famous words, “Only Connect.”
Thanks, Dori.
I have just completed a first draft of a memoir. If I had written this book 5 years earlier, my sister would have appeared 2 dimensional and cruel. We are both writing memoirs and through the process of digging deeper into the motivations and struggles of our characters, we have made peace with each other. I think these exercises are useful in helping us write and helping us heal. That being said, I have no intention of going back and rewriting our childhood history. Softening what happened between us as children would be a disservice to us both. It is the retrospective voice that has changed.
Thanks Daphne
Dori, great idea! Maybe we can all share not just reading lists (or suggestions, or hot tips), but also brief notes on what brackets and balusters we notice in some of what we’re reading.
That would be a useful prod for me, since I tend to race too fast through each book in my haste to get to the next one. But I’ve just started reading Terry Tempest Williams, who continually pulls me up short with arresting images. I’d like le to figure out how she does that.
Thanks, Kate. I love that idea!
Thank you for the questions you’re asking and the steps you are taking.
Thanks for this blog posst
When Megan first came to my workshops in 2014 and started sharing bits of her story, then a couple of years later brought me a first draft for editing/feedback, I knew that she had something special — talent, for sure. But also humor, and guts and grit. I’m so excited to host Megan’s Publication Day Launch at our studio on May 2!
